Prison authorities have installed telephone booths in Saravan and Zahedan Prison, both in southeast of Iran, to restrict prisoners’ telephone calls. The authorities have instructed inmates to give a list of seven names. Their calls would be restricted to this list and they cannot contact anyone else. It is said these measures are aimed at preventing news and reports about prisoners’ rights violations from leaking out.
